Ask the Bugman Animal Sanctuary

Ask the Bugman's Insect Identification Service & Animal Sanctuary

Welcome to Ask the Bugman / Animal Sanctuary website!

Why does the Bugman operate an animal sanctuary?  Because he and his wife love animals! Richard and Holly compassionately devote their lives to the welfare and maintenance of stranded and often abused animals that have taken refuge at their home.  They are currently in process of establishing their sanctuary as a non-profit and any donations (and much of the revenues from the alternative "pest"  managment and insect identification business) go to supporting all the animals.

Our Animal Sanctuary

We ask for a suggested donation of $35 or more for our animal sanctuary. Any donation amount is appreciated and will go exclusively to the welfare of the animals in our sanctuary, including food and veterinary care.

If not, sign up, it may be fun.

Identify Your Insect

Insect And Arthropod Identification

Insect identificationWe will be happy to identify insects or other arthropods (bugs) from anywhere in the country. In cases where these are potential pests, many insects including ants, some beetles, moths and others need to be identified to the species level in order to be properly controlled. (See Online Pest Control Consulting).  Others, such as springtails, booklice, etc., only need to be identified to the genus level.

For any insect or arthropod, we will perform the necessary identification necessary to control it.  Either put the sample insect in alcohol (best method), or place them in cotton and put them in a small sealed container.  Never send bugs dry in a business envelope.  Finally, pack securely in a box and mail to me at :

Dick Fagerlund
PO Box 432
Veguita, NM 87062

We can recommend methods of controlling any insects that are pests, without the use of toxic pesticides if possible.

Please print and fill out an Identification Form and include $20 (cash, check or money order) for each type of bug to be identified.  Please allow 1-2 weeks for us to respond.

Controlling Drywood Termites with Orange Oil or Fumigation
ALERT!
This is hot off the press!  If you are still undecided about using a fumigant to control termites, please read this published in Science Daily

Controlling Drywood Termites with Orange Oil or Fumigation

Controlling termitesOne of the most common questions I get from California is about the difference between using orange oil or fumigating with sulfuryl fluoride (Vikane) for controlling drywood termites or wood-boring beetles.

If you want the names of pest control companies that use orange oil successfully,  please click here to contact me.
